5th grade concluded their study of the Renaissance by holding a Renaissance Fair, where students showcased projects highlighting various aspects of the period.

LGS' Kindergarten queens and kings enjoyed a royal parade and ball to wrap up their unit on Kings and Queens. Students paraded through the hallways before walking the red carpet into the ballroom to enjoy treats, bejewel their crowns, dance, and take photos at the palace.

Students and families will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of Harry Potter-themed activities and games such as Hogwarts House sorting, wand-making, bean challenges, and obstacles in the Underground Chambers. Washington District 52 Teacher Honored with Prestigious Milken Educator Award
Washington, Illinois - January 17, 2025 - Lincoln Grade School is proud to announce that Mrs. Jessica Wentz, a dedicated educator and role model, has been named a recipient of the highly coveted Milken Educator Award. Often referred to as the “Oscar of Teaching,” this award recognizes outstanding educators across the country who make a profound impact on their students, colleagues, and communities.
The surprise announcement was made during a special school assembly on January 17, 2025, attended by students, staff, and community and state leaders. Representing the Milken Foundation, Jennifer Fuller, presented Mrs. Wentz with the honor, which includes an unrestricted $25,000 cash prize.
Jessica Wentz has been a vital part of Lincoln Grade School for seven years, where she teaches first grade. Known for her dynamic classroom environment, focus on individualized learning, and consistent drive to implement best practices, Mrs. Wentz has consistently gone above and beyond to ensure every student achieves his/her fullest potential. Beyond the classroom, Mrs. Wentz also dedicates her time, energy, and talents to a number of extracurricular activities. She participates on several school and district-wide committees, serves as first-grade lead teacher, has mentored numerous teachers and staff members, and has played a key role in several new curriculum initiatives. Her unwavering commitment to fostering a vibrant and inclusive school culture makes her an invaluable asset, and her positive impact is felt by students, parents, and colleagues.
The Milken Educator Award, established by the Milken Family Foundation in 1987, aims to celebrate and elevate outstanding educators, shining a spotlight on their achievements while inspiring others to join the teaching profession. This year, only one educator in Illinois and about forty-five educators nationwide have been selected for this prestigious honor.
As Washington Grade School District 52 celebrates this remarkable achievement, Mrs. Jessica Wentz joins a distinguished network of 3,000 Milken Educators nationwide who represent the best of the teaching profession.

20 WMS students attended the 2025 Teen Conference at ICC today. The Teen Conference brings students from across the area together to participate in workshop sessions designed to educate, inform, and inspire. Thank you to the Tazewell County Health Department and Youth Board for a great day!
