MATHEMATICS

District 52 uses the New Illinois Learning Standards to teach Mathematics to students in Grades K-8. During the 2024-2025 school year, the 3rd - 8th grade students will be taught using the Illustrative Math Curriculum, which is a problem-based mathematics curriculum. Grades K-2 will continue using Everyday Math this year and will transition to Illustrative next year.

There are eight
Math Practice Standards that are implemented in all grades. These are the practices students use while learning the mathematics content. They include:

  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them

  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively

  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others

  4. Model with mathematics

  5. Use appropriate tools strategically

  6. Attend to precision

  7. Look for and make sense of structure

  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
