The D52 Board of Education recently adopted the 2024 Levy which will lower the district's tax rate by an estimated 10 to 12 cents. This will most likely keep District 52's rate as the lowest one compared to all K-8 school districts in Tazewell County.

This is a reminder today is Giving Tuesday, and we have a unique opportunity for you to help sponsor D52 students in attending our Camp Invention STEM camp next summer. Last year, we had 90 students attend our first annual STEM camp at District 52. Camp Invention is a weeklong STEM program that introduces our K-6 students to the joy of hands-on invention and helps them develop an innovative mindset with confidence, creativity, and collaboration skills. Camp Invention is $275 per student, and last year, the Camp Invention organization provided two sponsorships for D52 students to attend. This year, we are hoping to provide at least five sponsorships to students in need. This year, to celebrate 35 years of Camp Invention, the National Inventors Hall of Fame will match every local dollar given nationwide up to a total of $35,000. Every donation received on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, will be matched 1:1 until national matching funds are expended. Our 2nd graders loved learning about Greek Civilizations!
Balloons over Broadway! 1st graders learned all about the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and the history of the balloons this week. They had their own parade through the building and outside today!
2nd and 3rd graders at LGS had a great time collaborating during their 2nd grade Greek Civilization and 3rd grade Roman Civilization ELA units.
Don Quixote and Sancho made a surprise visit during 5th grade lunch. 5th graders are currently reading The Adventures of Don Quixote and studying the development of plot, characters, and literary elements over the course of a novel.
7th graders in Mrs. Kunz's ELA class ended their Poetry and Poe unit with a debate based upon the story, "The Tell-Tale Heart". The students did an awesome job!
5th grade students in Mrs. Kipp's class ended their poetry unit with a Poetry Slam!
7th graders from WMS came to visit our Kindergarteners at LGS for our Kindergarten buddies program!
First grade ended their astronomy unit with some fun and engaging stations that even included some astronaut training!
